Hilary hosts the soft crafts group. The skills and levels of enthusiasm of the group are wide, varied and enlightening! If you're interested in sewing, knitting, painting, pyrography - almost any hand craft discipline why not come along and meet like minded people?
'Live, Laugh & Love' sums up Maureen's latest piece of work. This cushion cover will complement her home furnishings with that well used phrase of 'Home, Sweet, Home'.
A very nice piece made with input from members of the group but its mainly down to the skills of Maureen - an interesting and different piece of sewing!
Not all pieces are made and completed during the Hub's opening hours...
Linda used her skills, expertise and patience to produce these two lovely 'Lunar Bunnies' at home and they came along to introduce themselves and meet some of the regulars at the Hub. Looks like time for a picnic!
"It was a pig to make..." said Linda "but I love my elephant!"
And why wouldn't you? He looks great and his bow tie is a very stylish addition.
A group of soft craft members visited Romo (a local fabric material warehouse) and came away with very useful stash of quality 'roll ends' which will be ideal for a whole range of forth coming projects.
Tux can be seen doing his quality assurance inspection before the fabrics can be released for use!
A slight departure for some in the 'soft crafts' group - Janet, Linda T and Margaret decided to develop their jewellery making skills with some expert input from Linda W. Out came the beads, the clips, wire and fastenings this was quickly followed by design, creativity and plenty of imagination!
The end results speak for themselves - outstanding.
Mark has spent many happy hours over recent months making his portable art box with easel (check out the Carving page for more details), now he's turned his hand to sewing!
His extensive collection of crayons and pallet knives are now easily accessible whilst being protected from the vigours of the travelling artist that is Mark. Great job as ever plus some new skills and newly found friends in the sewing group.
Something a little different but very poignant to Linda and here daughters...
An essential for anyone who wants their kitchen knives kept dust free...
Here's a fantastic example of how donated fabric can, with a designer's eye and the expertise of a stitcher, be transformed into a useful everyday object.
A great colour combination for patchwork cushion cover and just look at the 'points'!
A fine example of the design and quality standards the members of the soft crafting group are achieving . In this case a great big well done to Carmen.
Here's something a little different from the sewers...
Jo has used appliqué to produce an interesting and unique design for a bench pillow cover.
Pam's 'bit bag' demonstration to the sewing group some weeks ago has proven to be extremely popular; not only did the sewers make individually stylised bags for their own off-cuts and threads they were also commissioned by the Card making group to produce a number of bags for this newly formed and growing group.
That's a win - win for two groups based around a great idea!
It's still a 'work in progress' but the sewing bag is almost there!
This innovative, up-cycling project started life as a pair of jeans however with a little imagination, some supportive advice from fellow sewers and some new found machining skills the denim has been transformed into useful and very functional bag designed to keep all those sewing projects in one place. Just the handles to finish off then Carmen's sewing bag is all set for its new life.
